1.
Review your unit 3 personal assessment of your psychological, physical, and
spiritual well-being. Reflect on these areas . How did you score yourself on a
scale from 1 to 10 in unit 3? How do you score yourself now? Has the score
changed? Why or why not?
I
hate to copy what I already wrote in the unit nine final but I did because I
still feel the same from a couple of days ago.
In unit three I scored my physical health
an 8, my spiritual health an 8 and my psychological health between a 5 and a 6.
I would have to say that my physical health is still an 8 maybe a 9. I know
that there are areas within my physical health that I could improve on and that
physically I am not perfect, although I do not feel negative about myself
physically, I just understand that there is always room for improvement whether
it include running harder or changing my diet to improve some nutritional
aspects. With that said I believe that is why I felt my psychological
well-being was so low because although these aspects seem to affect my physical
self I actually view them as more of a mental challenge. I now would rate my
psychological wellness a 7 because I feel like I have gained the power to
incorporate mental and physical exercises which has left my mind and body
feeling amazing. I am working on improving my mind to find a complete mind,
body and spiritual connection and each day I feel like I am a little bit closer
to that connection. Although I now have realized that my spiritual aspect has
not changed. I feel this way because I do not feel like I can honestly say that
my spiritual health has growth without improving my mind more to find that
inner most self that lies within me. I hope that when I look back in six months
from now and review these scores again I will have improved in each area
because of the exercises that I have done to find a connection that truly helps
each aspect within in my life flourish.
2.
Review the goals
and activities you set for yourself in each area. Have you made progress toward
the goals? Explain.
Unit three goals:
·
My
continuous physical goal is to never stop trying new activities and
researching.
·
my
goal now and hopefully for the future will be to always stay active but try new
things to keep my routine fresh and exciting.
·
One
can never stop learning and researching about your health. My goal is to
continue to do this and hopefully even more after I graduate school.
o I think that keeping up with medical and
health break through and continuously educating myself is one step closer to
keeping and staying healthy physically and in turn mentally and spiritually
·
deal
with stress or obstacles in a positive way and if that is not possible find a
way to eliminate that stressor
o try a new stress relieving activity which
involves me counting down from ten each time I get stressed then analyze the
situation before I act
·
My
spiritual goal is to try not to get upset with God when things are not going my
way
o I need to meditate and pray more in order
to keep a strong connection with God
I believe that I have made progress with each
one of these goals. I also would have to say that now looking at my words for
before these are all goals that I can see I will be working on for most if not
all of my life. I believe that these goals are goals that will continuously keep
me complete and connected to my whole self and help me not lose sight of who I
am.
The progress that I have made
with these goals in just the last few weeks I feel have been amazing because I have
actually practiced to improve these aspects and amazingly enough some of the
areas I really did not even have to try to change it just all happened (there goes
that everything is connected aspect again). I hope to continue to view these
goals as positive goals within my life that will continuously change along with
me.
3.
Have you implemented
the activities you chose for your well-being in each of the three areas?
Explain.
Unit
three’s I stated I could implement:
·
Try a new stress
relieving activity which involves me counting down from ten each time I get
stressed then analyze the situation before I act.
·
I need to
meditate and pray more in order to keep a strong connection with God
·
to keep active
and never stop trying new things
I do believe that I have applied these activities
within my everyday routine. Stress is a big issue for most people as it is for me
and I would have to say that I am getting better at how I react to stress. I
believe this has to do with all the mental exercises that I have been trying.
I think that my connection with God has
always been great but there have been times throughout my life when I question
his path for us. I know that this is a strong statement but it is true. I have
never stopped loving or believing I just know I need to create a stronger bond
to allow frustration out and his arms wrapped around me in. I apply his love
and belief every second in my life and I hope that I will never get so upset
with him that I let that go (I never want to stop believing and loving God).
I have been going biking by myself on our
county roads (not a big thing for some people but I hate dogs that attack me;
this happens a lot, and horse (yes horses) from Amish buggies. I have found
this some regarding because the view is amazing, especially now with the colors
changing and the air so crisp. I am glad that I have branched out which has
allowed me to let go of my fear and realize that we only live once and I have
to stop thinking that if I do something it will harm me because in the long run
I am only harming myself by missing out on the amazing experience. I intend to
keep trying new things that will keep my mental, spiritual and physical self-going
throughout my life time.
4.
Summarize your personal experience
throughout this course. Have you developed improved well-being? What has been
rewarding? What has been difficult? How will this experience improve your
ability to assist others?
This course has offered me some much more than
I ever expected. I have found the inspiration to find look for that inner
person within myself that has been there waiting to be discovered. I believe that
everyone path in life is chosen for them; I love to help people but through
this class I have discovered that to truly do this I need to find the complete connection
with myself first in order to truly be a great teacher and healer. I have found
practices that work for me to exercise my mind, body and spirit that have allowed
me to find this amazing connection with my mind, body and spirit. Now I know
that I have so much more work to do but this class truly opened the door for me
to start me new and exciting journey for life; in the end to help other succeed
and discover a similar experience (but of course their own).
Have I developed improved happiness? Yes
I believe that I have found more positive aspects in my life while eliminating
some negatives that has allowed me to stop, think and focus on the important
aspects in my life; which has made me a lot happier, healthier and whole. This
course has allowed me to find this improved well-being that has been there
within me the whole time.
I believe that the whole class was rewarding
and exciting. I really have not taken a more exciting class that has allowed me
to focus on improving myself to then in turn help others. I want to become a
great health care provider and teacher when I am finished with school and I
believe that this class has opened more exciting doors for me to want to learn
more about myself and the world around us; what could be more rewarding then
learning?
I think that the most difficult part of
this class was trying so hard to make some of the exercises work. I did not get
frustrated but I really wanted to try them so I could explain to others how it
made me feel. Now looking back I realize that this too is OK because we are all
different and not every path and or exercise is right for us all and accepting
this is part of find happiness, health and wholeness.
Like I stated before there is nothing
better than getting an education but this class (and of course others here at
Kaplan) have allowed me to become the best that I possibly can. This class just
went in a different direction and really helped me focus on me so then when I
found myself I could assist others in their own health and wellness the best
way that I know and possibly can.
Hello Melissa,
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you have your feet firmly on the ground and now you are also on your way to having a firm grasp on your mental and spiritual needs. The goals you have are great goals to have because they will require you to enter your inner-self to widen your view of reality and your consciousness. I think you are right that your growth in your spiritual life will grow when you are able to enter and sustain inner contemplative exercises to reach the calm-abiding and unity consciousness aspects of the human experience. I too have learned more about what happiness is and what it can be if we make choices to aliminate negative behaviors and replace them with posative ones. Continue to look upward and inward for growth, and keep smiling!
God bless you

Hi Melissa, i enjoyed reading your thoughts and also how you scored your self in all three domains. I also have around the same scores in physcological well being. I think that after this course I seemed to be far more critical of myself than ever before. I also feel like this class helped me to becoe much more aware of where I am in my health and wellness journey and how important it is for us all to take a step back and do these simple evaluations throughout our day to day tasks and stressors that we encounter. I hope that you find all you need for your health journey and that human flourishing becomes more about yourself flourishing Lots of luck and take care
ReplyDeleteHello Melissa.
ReplyDeleteReading your blogs every week was a blessing. I am glad we all had the opportunity to enjoy a course that taught each one of us how important and how much more we all are than just the skin on our bones. I do not believe there could have been a way any of us did not walk away from this course physically, mentally, and spiritual more mature. I think the course materials were perfect and the professor was second to none. I would like to wish you the best in all you do and good luck.
thank you so much Sean. I wish you the best as well.
DeleteI would have to agree with you that there is no way a student could walk away from this class a not changed for the better. Thanks to out great teacher and of course everyone within the class that made is so exciting.
Good luck Sean :)
Melissa, I like your addition of the bridge picture as an example of using what you learned to get past something you dislike. I don't mind bridges, but I do not care for flying (even though I've flown a lot) and I know that next time I fly I will be able to use some exercises to feel better about it. Good luck with your health goals!

ReplyDeleteThis course for me has been a life changer and I think once I accomplish a higher score on my physical aspect then everything else will fall in place and raise also. When you physically feel good I think everything else is tied in like self esteem and what not. I am hoping to stay just as disciplined since the class is over but since I have an app on my phone and you can find plenty of videos on youtube that are great I think i will search for ones I really love and save them. To many people are constantly on the go and we need that quiet time to focus on things. Good luck in your future!
Melissa,
ReplyDeleteAs I have said before. I think that you will succeed in everything that you do. This class for me has been a huge life changer for me in the phychological and spiritual aspect. I don't worry too much about the physical aspect however, I vow to try different types of training and new ways to do things.
Good luck in your endeavors..........
Kristi
Hello Melissa
ReplyDeleteThis class has taught me what inner health is all about. My biggest mistake in health and wellness was strictly physical health through proper diet and exercise. This class made me realize, I have to set aside some time for myself to heal and grow. Like you I been meditating consistenly for seven weeks and I feel great. I also like your method of counting down from 10. I think we all need to come up with something that works for us.

Melissa,
ReplyDeleteI have to say that it does seem like you have gotten a huge amount out of this class and put it to work for you, so congratulations and very well done. like you , all of the exercises were not ideal for me and while that was hard to swallow, eventually I figured out that not all of them will work for everyone. You just have to pick out the ones that will benefit you the most. I also think I got more out of this class than I expected. I hope that continue to thrive and if you continue to blog, I may stop in and say howdy.
